Breaking: Kelly Clarkson’s Manager Exposes Shocking Secrets Behind ‘Since U Been Gone’

The creation of Kelly Clarkson’s 2004 hit “Since U Been Gone” is surrounded by controversy and conflicting accounts, particularly involving Clarkson and music executive Clive Davis. In his 2013 memoir, The Soundtrack of My Life, Davis claimed that Clarkson was initially resistant to recording the song and became emotional during discussions about its inclusion on her album Breakaway. He described a “very tough conversation” where Clarkson “burst into hysterical sobbing” over the track.

Clarkson has refuted Davis’s portrayal of events. In a 2013 open letter, she stated, “His stories and songs are mixed up.” She acknowledged advocating for more guitars in the song’s production, a decision that ultimately contributed to its success. She expressed resentment toward Davis for “dampening that song in any way.”

In a 2023 appearance on Watch What Happens Live, Clarkson elaborated on her experience, revealing that she was misled about her role in the song’s creation. She was informed that producers Max Martin and Dr. Luke wanted to collaborate with her and that she was to write lyrics for the song, which then had “dummy lyrics.” However, upon arriving in Sweden, she discovered that the producers had already completed the song without her input. She felt deceived by her label and stated, “I don’t like the lying. So that’s why I have a bad vibe with that song.”

Despite these negative associations, Clarkson continues to perform “Since U Been Gone” and acknowledges its significance in her career. She has demonstrated an ability to separate her personal feelings from her professional responsibilities, stating, “I’m such a great compartmentalizer. I can put that aside, and I sing the hell out of it on the tour.”

This controversy highlights the complexities artists often face in the music industry, particularly regarding creative control and transparency. Clarkson’s experience underscores the importance of clear communication and honesty in collaborative creative processes.
