It’s an odd time to be a West Bromwich Albion supporter right now. You could scarcely be more entertained and filled with optimism than if you supported one of the Premier League’s big guns, such is the quality of football, mixed with superb form, that Carlos Corberan is concocting.
Yet for all the love and admiration being shown towards Corberan, his staff and the club’s players right now – they’ve been lifted from the bottom of the pile to within touching distance of the play-offs, all within the space of two months – the outlook away from the pitch has rarely looked bleaker.
Yet things aren’t all fine and dandy. Financially, the picture painted is a grim one. So, while there was plenty of support towards the players as is usually the case, there were also the continuation of campaigns orchestrated by the Action For Albion movement, a particularly poignant effort from supporters in the wake of the news that the club have taken out a £20m loan merely to pay the bills.
Still, the fans will rightfully shine their lights and, in the case of this Preston meeting, a few hundred held up white sheets of A4 in the first half. Meanwhile, Albion were dismantling another Championship side with some superb football in front of their eyes.
