Director breaks silence on £27m Rangers link with January decision agreed…..

Standard Liege’s sporting director has broken his silence on the Steven Alzate situation amid claims that Premier League outfit Brighton and Hove Albion have offered the midfielder to Rangers.

It’s certainly not an ideal situation to find yourselves in, Standard Liege at the mercy of a re-call clause and reduced to praying that the phone does not ring.

Steven Alzate is in the midst of his second season on loan at the Belgian outfit. But, with his contract expiring next summer, Brighton would jump at the opportunity to sell in January before losing the London-born Colombia international for nothing in July.

And Standard Liege can do nothing but sit and wait, Alzate’s future in Brighton’s hands.

“We had agreed with their (parent) clubs that they could be recalled in January,” Fergal Harkin tells Voetbal Krant, Alzate’s future uncertain and fellow loanee Isaac Hayden expected to return to Newcastle United.

“Steven is recovering from an ankle injury at Brighton. The recall option has not been exercised for the time being, and he is therefore still our player.”
