It’s hard to know what’s going to happen with Michigan basketball head coach Juwan Howard after the season. Following the loss to Ohio State on Sunday, the reactions on social media indicated that Howard should go and put the onus on Michigan AD Warde Manuel to make a move.
Yet, Manuel said he supported Juwan this season and hasn’t thought about making a change. John U. Bacon, a known Michigan Wolverines insider, also reported that “it was more likely than not” that Juwan Howard would be back after the season.
However, a 3-16 record in the Big Ten and an 8-22 record overall makes it hard to retain him. The record is bad, but the fact that Michigan basketball has trailed by 20 points or more in seven straight road games makes it worse.
But the injury to Olivier Nkamhoua and the suspension of Dug McDaniel didn’t help matters. Neither did the fact that Juwan missed part of the season due to his heart surgery. Those are all reasons to consider another year for Juwan along with the fact he has coached Michigan basketball to a Big Ten championship and two Sweet 16 appearances.
