Reasons why I want to hand over Stuart Kettlewell announced…

Motherwell have confirmed that Stuart Kettlewell will remain as boss until May 2025.

It was previously believed that Kettlewell’s deal was up this summer, but chairman Jim McMahon has stated that the Fir Park club remaining in the top-flight last season triggered an automatic one-year extension to his contract.

And Mr McMahon has apologised to Motherwell supporters for not making that clearer.

Today marks a year since Kettlewell was appointed, with 18 wins, 15 draws and 14 defeats in 38 games, sparking a discussion at last night’s AGM, in which it apparently became clear that they hadn’t revealed the contract ‘extension’ clause.

A statement issued by the Fir Park club this morning states: “We would like to apologise to both our fans and Stuart for not properly communicating the terms of the extension in May last year, and for the uncertainty this has clearly caused.”

McMahon said: “Although during the 12 months of his time here there have been some highs and lows, we firmly believe that Stuart can take this group of players and the club forward.
