Leeds United fans who haven’t used their season tickets for at least 80% of matches this season are at risk of losing theirs next term, according to Phil Hay.
The Whites are introducing a new policy to try and combat the issue of non-attendance at Elland Road.
A new usage benchmark is coming into play for the 2024/25 campaign.
Writing for the Athletic (1 March), Hay explained: “Leeds United are introducing a season-ticket usage policy which will see holders at risk of losing their tickets if they fail to use them for at least 80 per cent of home league matches.
United announced today that they were imposing the rule from the start of next season to combat what they called the ‘problem’ of non-attendance at Elland Road.
This new policy is likely to split opinion among the Leeds fanbase. With the amount of their games that get selected for television coverage, sometimes supporters can’t attend if it isn’t on a Saturday afternoon or Tuesday night match which would result in an empty seat.
Each individual has their own set of circumstances but with an organisation the size of the Whites, they no doubt have people waiting in the wings if a ticket can’t be snapped up.
From the club’s point of view, they want the stadium full every game to increase the amount of money coming in from not only the seat price, but from other streams of income like food, drinks, merchandise and more.
