Nathan Tella has said that a phone conversation with Vincent Kompany convinced him a move to Burnley was the right decision.
Tella has made 41 appearances for Saints over the past three years but will spend the 2022/23 season loan with the Championship outfit.
Burnley were relegated from the Premier League at the end of last season and hired former Manchester City defender Kompany as manager over the summer.
And Tella said that the Belgian has a clear plan for him, one which the winger hopes will see them bounce back to England’s top flight at the first time of asking.
“Speaking to the manager, he’s told me the game plan and what he thinks about the season as well as how he thinks I’ll fit into the team. It’s been nothing but positivity,” Tella told Burnley’s website. “The phone call I had with him really sold the club to me.
“He really told me how he rates me as a player and as a person, speaking about how he thinks I’ll get plenty of opportunities here as well as working one-to-one being tough and critical with me. That’s something I felt like I needed so it’s a very big factor in the move and a reason as to why I came here.
