The Whites are yet to make a signing this month but have repeatedly made it clear they are willing to be patient in order to secure their top targets. It is now crunch time to see if that strategy works.

Central defence is one of a few positions which require reinforcements over the next seven days, with at least one full-back and a creative attacker also seemingly on the agenda.

One centre-back who has been linked with Leeds over the last few days is Everton’s Ben Godfrey, with the 49ers reportedly in talks over an initial loan deal that includes an obligation-to-buy in the summer.

And now speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead of Everton’s FA Cup tie with Luton Town, manager Sean Dyche has addressed the speculation linking Godfrey with an exit.

He said: “Ben’s going along very well, his professional attitude is outstanding. He is well thought of in the group, hasn’t had as much game time and is quite frustrated by that, quite obviously.

“But not in a sense that’s he frustrated with me or anything, just frustrated not to play. He’s a fantastic pro and continues to push himself and the group.”

Godfrey has made just two Premier League appearances so far this season, with only one of those coming from the start in December. Aside from that, he has had to settle for a single one-minute cameo.
