Alabama football has its next head coach. The Crimson Tide hired Kalen DeBoer on Friday, according to Matt Zenitz, to fill the shoes of the legendary Nick Saban, who announced his retirement earlier this week after 17 seasons in Tuscaloosa. It was a wild 48 hours with numerous top-notch coaches mentioned as candidates for the vacancy. Ultimately the search was quick as Alabama locked in on the former Washington coach.
DeBoer was among the candidate names immediately listed with Dan Lanning (Oregon), Mike Norvell (Florida State), Steve Sarkisian (Texas) and others in the mix as well.
DeBoer is a proven winner with a career record of 104-12 (.896) as a head coach. He led the Huskies to a runner-up finish in the College Football Playoff after just two seasons in Seattle. DeBoer won three NAIA Championships at the University of Sioux Falls in South Dakota where he began his coaching career.
