‘Nightmare’… Nathan Redmond says playing against £50m Man City star was terrifying

Former City defender Vincent Kompany is currently managing the winger after he joined Burnley during the previous summer window on a free transfer from Besiktas.
Having played in 276 Premier League games across his career, Redmond has shared some details on what it has been like to come face to face against one particular opponent.
Speaking in a recent video from the Sky Sports Premier League YouTube channel, Redmond had this to say about Walker after choosing him as being the hardest opponent he has faced in his career.
He said: “I’ve had a lot of battles with him over the years and I know Walks quite well anyway, but the pace, the power, the strength.
“Also the intelligence as well, I’m seeing it a little bit more now because I’m working with Vinny here who has obviously worked with Pep [Guardiola] for a long, long time so I’m seeing a lot of the things and the structures, the patterns of play and the positional stuff that’s needed when you have the ball and also when you don’t have the ball.
“Playing against Walks was a nightmare, one-v-one he’s good in that scenario but also sometimes going into the pocket, you think you’ve got a little bit more time then crash. But also once he wins the ball he’s gone, then as a winger’s worst nightmare you’ve got to track back so there’s that aspect as well.”
Throughout his Premier League career, Redmond has faced off against Walker, whom City signed for £50m back in 2017, on 13 occasions, 11 of which have seen the full-back be on the winning side, with two draws and no defeats.
Redmond isn’t the first attacking player to have a tough time against the 33-year-old, as Walker found himself on the end of some significant praise from Thierry Henry after he managed to stop Vinicius Junior from having any sort of impact in last season’s Champions League semi-final second leg clash at the Etihad Stadium.
With all of that in mind, it’s no surprise that the Burnley attacker has named the England international as being the toughest opponent he has ever faced on the pitch.
