While Michigan waits to see if Jim Harbaugh will be its head coach in 2023, the team did get great news from running back Blake Corum on Monday.
Corum announced he is bypassing the NFL draft to return to school for his senior season.
Corum missed the final two games of the Wolverines’ season due to a knee injury he suffered in a Nov. 19 win over Illinois.
After trying to play through the injury against Ohio State, Corum had surgery last month.
Per Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer, Corum’s decision to return to school was based in large part because of the six-month recovery timetable for his knee that would have prevented him from taking part in any predraft workouts.
B/R’s NFL scouting department had Corum ranked as the 13th-best running back and No. 132 player overall with a grade of 6.0 in the 2023 draft class in its most recent big board update. Per B/R’s grading scale, a player graded between 6.0 to 6.4 is a “high-level developmental prospect.”
Corum had name, image and likeness deals with Athlytic and Bon Bon Bon, a chocolate shop in Ann Arbor, last season. His breakout 2022 campaign will likely allow him to earn even more money through NIL deals.
The Wolverines named Corum their toughest player, gave him the blue-collar award and the Bo Schembechler team MVP award for this season.
