Vincent Kompany has no problem with Darren England returning to officiating in Burnley’s clash with Brentford on Saturday.
England was stood down along with Daniel Cook after their communication error as VAR officials led to Luis Diaz’s goal for Liverpool against Tottenham being incorrectly disallowed last month
Both return to action this weekend, with England the fourth official at the Gtech Community Stadium.
Clarets boss Kompany said: ‘Mistakes are human. I like the fact there’s transparency and that people come forward, own their mistakes, that we get access to the footage.
There might be a trend here where we get the young referees who need to learn Premier League game time or we get the guys who are just coming back and easing their way in but I’m sure with time and better results that can change. For him personally, we all make mistakes.’
It is a huge game for Burnley, who sit in the relegation zone after picking up four points from a tough sequence of opening fixtures following their return to the top flight.
Brentford have been virtually note perfect since their promotion to the Premier League in 2021 but they have also had a tricky start to the season and are only three points ahead of Saturday’s opponents.
‘I think they’ll be named as a template by many teams coming up in years to come,’ said Kompany.
‘The goal is always to better what’s been done before but it’s step by step. I think year one for us is not about focusing yet on what Brentford has done or what Brighton has done, it’s just our own journey.
‘But we’re convinced we’ve got an exciting squad for now, but for the future as well, that will keep getting stronger.’
Kompany is waiting to see whether the likes of Johann Berg Gudmundsson, Manuel Benson, Ameen Al Dakhil and Nathan Redmond will be available after injury.
