Another huge set back as Steve Bisciotti finally fired John Harbaugh today…..

Baltimore Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti didn’t wait to see if his team would make the playoffs to reaffirm a commitment to his head coach.
The Ravens on Friday announced coach John Harbaugh would remain in his position for the 2019 season, quashing speculation that suggested the two sides were headed toward a split. Harbaugh’s contract was set to expire at the end of next year, but the team said through a statement it was working on an extension.
Harbaugh, who is in his 11th year coaching the Ravens, has led the team on a late-season surge since plugging first-round rookie quarterback Lamar Jackson into the lineup.
“John Harbaugh will continue as our head coach for the 2019 season, and he and we are working on an extension to his existing contract, which expires after the 2019 season,” the Ravens said in their statement.
This news comes one day before the Ravens (8-6) are set to square off against the Los Angeles Chargers (11-3) in a game that could determine their postseason fate. A win would position Baltimore well in the wildcard and AFC North races, while a loss could leave the team eliminated from playoff contention as early as Sunday.
Pundits had speculated Bisciotti would fire Harbaugh if the Ravens missed the postseason for a fourth straight year, marking the franchise’s longest drought since its first four seasons in Baltimore (1996-99). But Harbaugh won a Super Bowl with the Ravens in 2012, and he guided the team through a quarterback change and rocky midseason stretch this year.
The Ravens’ success since Jackson replaced veteran Joe Flacco gave Bisciotti additional reason to stick with Harbaugh, a well-respected figure across the league.
Sweeping changes are still unfolding at other prominent positions within the organization. Longtime general manager Ozzie Newsome plans to cede control to his No. 2 Eric DeCosta this offseason, while Flacco’s decade-long tenure as the face of the Ravens offense came to an end this fall.
Harbaugh, who has posted a 172-104 record as Ravens coach, will outlast both Flacco and Newsome and lead the team deeper into the Lamar Jackson era.
None of this saps short-term significance from Saturday’s game against the Chargers. The Ravens still need to win to remain in strong position for the playoffs. But Bisciotti sent a strong message with Friday’s statement that boils down to this: Any long-term ramifications that come out of the Chargers game won’t affect Harbaugh. His job is safe.
