Former Ohio State cornerback exits transfer portal to play for former Buckeyes defensive coordinator…..
Ryan Turner has found a new northern home after the South Florida native elected to enter the transfer portal two years into his Ohio State career.
The cornerback announced his intentions to transfer to Boston College on Friday just 13 days after entering the transfer portal.
Turner spent two seasons in Columbus as the nation’s No. 341 player and No. 37 cornerback but was never able to work his way onto the field in a meaningful way. He’s played just 47 snaps in five games, recording three tackles along with a sack that he recorded on a blitz in a 49-10 win over Rutgers in 2022. He is one of 14 scholarship players to enter the transfer portal this offseason while being the first of four defensive backs to do so.
Choosing Boston College links Turner up with Jeff Hafley who was the first defensive coordinator Ryan Day ever hired as a head coach back in 2019. Hafley served as the play-caller for one of the nation’s top defenses while helping Chase Young become a Heisman Trophy finalist and Jeff Okudah become a finalist for the Jim Thorpe Award as the nation’s best defensive back. Hafley left to be Boston College’s head coach after just one season in Columbus. The Eagles have gone 21-26 in his four seasons.
This is the second time Hafley has been the beneficiary of an Ohio State football player entering the transfer portal. He also brought in wide receiver Jaelen Gill before the 2020 season. He spent three years at Boston College before ending his career at SMU.
Turner is third Ohio State player to enter the transfer portal and find a new destination, joining running backs Evan Pryor (Cincinnati) and Chip Trayanum (Kentucky).
