Deal Report: Browns get extension done with soon-to-be free agent……

The 2023 NFL season still has five weeks left and, hopefully for the Cleveland Browns, at least one playoff game remaining. The players and coaches must be focused on the here and now, unlike in the past when the team was out of contention already by this point and thinking about the offseason.
GM Andrew Berry and the front office have a unique now and later responsibility. Berry continues to churn the bottom of the roster but has 23 players entering NFL free agency this offseason.
That includes six starters and a slew of contributors.
Safety Grant Delpit was expected to be the top priority for Berry and the Browns. “Expected” because, according to Brad Stainbrook at The OBR, Delpit and the Browns have agreed on an extension
Delpit has had a very good season in 2023, showing range and versatility. The LSU product lost his rookie year due to an Achilles tear and struggled in Joe Woods’ defense next to John Johnson III. This year, under new DC Jim Schwartz, Delpit and Juan Thornhill look comfortable in their roles and have excelled
In 12 games, Delpit has 74 tackles, six tackles for loss, three QB hits, three passes defended, one fumble recovery and a half of a sack.
Berry has a history of signing players to extension late in the season including Joel Bitonio and Jack Conklin in 2021.
