Video footage has surfaced indicating the possible moment when quarterback Brock Purdy of the San Francisco 49ers had an injury that required him to enter the concussion protocol.
Purdy was hurt on Monday night during the Niners’ Week 7 loss against the Minnesota Vikings at U.S. Bank Stadium. The team lost 24-17, dropping to 5-2 overall and suffering its second straight loss following the Week 6 loss to the Cleveland Browns.
The Niners’ next game is a Sunday night return to Levi’s Stadium against the Cincinnati Bengals, but without their primary quarterback, San Francisco will need to try to win again.
Purdy was able to play the entire game in Minneapolis without experiencing any symptoms associated with a concussion. Recently, what appears to be video footage of the quarterback’s injuries has surfaced on social media.
Nevertheless, during the fourth quarter, Purdy can be seen on camera executing a quarterback sneak play at the 50-yard line in an attempt to get a first down. Following the snap, Purdy attempts to pass the Vikings defense line while holding onto the ball, but it looks like he takes an inadvertent hit to the head from a Minnesota player’s helmet.
According to head coach Kyle Shanahan, Purdy did not exhibit symptoms until the trip back to San Francisco, and he played out the remainder of the game. Purdy received medical testing for a concussion and will now continue to follow the league’s regulations, according to the head coach of the Niners, who has acknowledged that he was unsure of the precise time of the injury. He made this announcement during a press conference on Wednesday.
